1989 - 29 years ago.  That's the last time a Saskatchewan-based Western Hockey League team won the Memorial Cup.

And, as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan won it last night with a 3-0 win over the host Regina Pats, you can bet there were a lot of questions in the conversations.

Should we change the format?  Did the host Pats deserve to be there?  What if the WHL playoff format were changed, would the Pats have earned their way there?  You see, our Warriors, Pats and Swift Current were, arguably, the three best teams in the league this year but the way the playoffs are set up, only one of those three teams would come out of the 2nd round of the post season.

I wonder if we need the big, 11 day festival.  Maybe the OHL and Quebec champs should meet for the right to play the WHL winner in a 7 game series.

I wonder if the WHL will one day split into two leagues.  The players in "The 'Dub" spend many days and nights on the bus.  That's not the case for a number of teams in the Ontario and Quebec leagues.  I believe it's one of the reasons they've won 9 of the last 10 Memorial Cup tournaments.

Oh, and why do we play hockey into late May?  Isn't it baseball season?  Hockey players don't have time for that anymore.  That's another topic for another day.
