It's one of the most overused and misused words in the English language.  In fact, I'm guilty of it when I open up the CHAB Morning Show every day when I proclaim, "It's a great day to be alive!"

"Great" is the word.  By definition, it means "of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above the normal or average" and / or "of ability, quality or eminence considerably above the normal or average."  It's a word we can also use to describe "an important or distinguished person".

So, if someone asks you how you're doing and you say, "I'm great!", you should really reconsider that.  Are you really "great"?

Wayne Gretzky was great, that's why we call him "The Great One".  Muhammad Ali was great and he knew it.  That's why he called himself "The Greatest of All Time".  Most of us aren't in that category, are we?

This is a debate you can start with your family and friends.  It could make for some "great" conversation.  And, if someone becomes angry, you can finish off the war of words by telling them to have a "great" day.

Is that a "great" idea or not?
