The advice is essentially the same advice we get when influenza season arrives;  Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly and practice good personal respiratory hygiene.

The World Health Organization is urging people around the world to protect ourselves against the new coronavirus. They're telling us to clean our hands "with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water".

The WHO also recommends we "maintain at least one metre distance between ourselves and anyone who is coughing or sneezing".We should also avoid touching our eyes, nose and mouth because, "once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth" and "from there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick".

The "respiratory hygiene" they talk about is simply covering your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a tissue when you cough of sneeze. And, the WHO tells us if we have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care and stay home if you feel unwell.

Oh, and it's estimated by some experts that replacing handshakes with fist bumps we'll transfer 10 times less bacteria.  You know, some people are offended when you refuse a handshake.  That's their issue, not yours.
