SaskPower is going ahead with a request for proposal for a 10 megawatt solar energy project, in a location to be determined.

There were 22 applications from 13 proponents in the prior stage of the project, which aims to help get SaskPower's carbon emissions 40 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. A site has not yet been chosen for the project, but proponents at the previous stage would have indicated sites and those sites have gone through a pre-screening process.

With an announcement of a successful application in 2020, the project may be in operation as early as 2021.

The RM of Coulee, near Swift Current, is the home to the first 10 megawatt project, in a competition that was completed in June 2018. That project is expected to be in operation by the end of next year. SaskPower aims to add 60 megawatts to the provincial power grid by 2021.
