Brent Handy, local pilot, flight instructor and air show pilot for 15-Wing, is putting on a second charity airshow in Moose Jaw.

It all started two years ago, when Handy's son came home with a letter from his school, saying they were selling popsicles to raise money for 14 year old Jacob Lesperance, who was diagnosed with cancer. That letter hit hard with Handy.

"I just thought to myself, holy cow. A kid with cancer struck home with me, you know having young kids myself, and thought maybe there was something i could do to raise some money for this kid," said Handy.

Within two weeks, Handy and some of his friends and contacts put on a charity air show for Lesperance. Raising over $10,000 and planting the seed for this next air show.

They took a year off in 2016, but after having many people ask "when's the next one", Handy decided it was time to come back for another year, but you can't have a charity air show without a cause to stand behind.

So, Handy knew Moose Jaw would "dig into" a cause, and after the loss of a Moose Jaw police officer passing due to work related stress injuries, it was time to help our local heroes.

The air show titled "Help for Heroes" is looking to raise funds for our heroes who work in emergency services or in the army.

"I've definitely got heroes, and those are the first responders and veterans. All these guys who are dealing with some tough job's everyday, not just once in a while, but every single day," Handy said.

Handy sees this as a way to get behind our local heroes, and show them we care.

All funds are going to causes that support veterans and first responders that suffer from job related mental health injuries, better known as PTSD. The two organizations the funds will go to are the Canadian "Wounded Warriors Canada" and the "Tema Conter Memorial Trust."

Tons of sponsorship and support has come from the community too, from big corporations like CAE, K+S and Simpson Seeds, and small mom and pop companies.

Performers from across Canada are coming to preform, with airplanes ranging from large and slow to small and fast.

Highway to Heroes, a car show and concert event is also going on at 15-Wing that day.

More details on the show is on their Facebook page and tickets for the airshow are available here or at the Tourism Moose Jaw Office.
