The Moose Jaw Warriors ventured into Regina on Saturday for a preseason clash with the Pats and walked away from the Queen City with a 4-1 win.

Regina was strong in the opening moments of the game, but as the first period continued the Warriors took control of the game and dictated the pace and had a 15-5 advantage on the shot clock in the opening frame.

Moose Jaw took a 1-0 lead at 14:06 when Noah Gregor jumped on a loose puck between the circles and snapped in a power play goal.

With just over two minutes left in the frame. the Pats found themselves on the man advantage and set up Jonathon Smart for a slap-shot from the middle of the blue-line that beat Ethan Fitzgerald to tie the game at one.

In the closing seconds of the first period and with a delayed penalty coming to the Pats, the Warriors went on the attack with Josh Brook setting up Brett Howden for a one-timer inside the right circle, his first of the preseason game the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading to the intermission.

In the second the teams combined for 18 shots (11-7 MJ) and created quality scoring opportunities, the only goal of the period came at 17:31 when Howden and Luka Burzan dug the puck off the left Regina boards and set up Jayden Halbgewachs in front of the net where he lifted a backhand top shelf for a highlight reel goal to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead.

The third period saw the Warriors once again throw a lot of pucks at the Regina net, they outshot the Pats 13-6 in the period and a goal from Burzan midway through the period put the game out of reach.

Gregor, Halbgewachs, Howden and Burzan all had a goal and two points each, while Fitzgerald allowed one goal on eight shots in 30 minutes and 17-year-old goalie Adam Evanoff stopped all ten shots he saw in 30 minutes.

Moose Jaw out-shot the Pats 39-18, they were 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The win improves their preseason record to 2-1. Their next action will be Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at Mosaic Place. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
