After its destruction from vandals in early June, the Yara Community Gardens on Grey Avenue are receiving some TLC from Sask Polytechnic teachers and students.

Having all the help needed to set up the sign.

A number of plants and gardens were torn up and stolen from, along with significant destruction to the muskoka chairs and local playground last week, causing much frustration to the Moose Jaw residents who rent the plots of land to plant their own gardens.

Now Sask Polytechnic teachers and students are banding together in the reconstruction of the gardens and property.

Reg Forbes, an instructor for the architectural program at Sask Polytechnic, said the institute has been helping out at the gardens for 10 years and that it is good experience for the students.

"It shows the students the importance of community and giving back to people. And it gives them practical experience too, so it works both ways."

In addition to the reconstruction efforts, the team is also putting up signs in the hopes of discouraging anymore trespassers or vandals.

Forbes says that while it is disappointing to be helping the gardens under such circumstances it is still an important experience his students.

"They do buildings and buildings get vandalized and they have to design to prevent that, so that is what we are here today doing."
