Another pageant, another win for Moose Jaw's Siera Bearchall.

The 23-year old Moose Jaw native won the Miss Universe Canada pageant in Toronto Sunday night, edging out 1st Runner-Up Amber Bernachi from Amherstburg, Ontario.

"This is the ultimate...what I've been working for all those years," said an ecstatic Bearchell Monday morning.  Bearchell had previousy just missed out on the title, taking 1st Runner-Up honours in 2013.

"That was a blessing in disguise," Bearchell said about that experience. "Now in these past three years I've been successful on the international pageant stage, I'm now in law school, I have a business.  I have more to bring to the table when going to Miss Universe."

Bearchell has just completed her 2nd year of Law at the University of Saskatchewan, and started a company called 'Watered Down Apparrel', proceeds of which provide drinking water in underdeveloped countries.

Her pageant history goes back to 2009, when she won the title of Miss Teen Canada at the age of 16.  Since that time, she has gained other pageant experience by finishing 2nd Runner-Up at Miss Teen World in 2009 and 1st Runner-Up at Miss Supranational in 2015.

"I could not be more fortunate to have the opportunities I have because of pageants," said Bearchell, whose pageant-related trips have included stops in Africa, Poland, and all over North America. Since 2009, Bearchell has been involved with charities and organizations like Free The Children, the Canadian Red Cross and SOS Children's Villages.  In addition to her pageant victories, she has received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Peter Mansbridge Youth Leadership Award, the Deloitte Inspiration Award, and the Red Cross Young Humanitarian Award.

Her next opportunity will take her to Nicaragua. "July 1st I head (there) to work with Operation Smile, and I'll be able to work with young people who will undergo surgery to repair the cleft lips (and palates) they were born with. It truly changes their lives because they are shunned from their communities (if they have the birth defect) and once they get the surgery they're like a new person."

In addition to winning the overall Miss Universe Canada title, Bearchell was also named Miss Photogenic and took the award for Best Runway at the competition.

She will now represent Canada at the Miss Universe pageant later this year. No official date or location have been announced at this point.  The 2015 pageant was held in Las Vegas, NV in December of 2015.
