Oh, the memories...they're flooding my mind today as I read about Calgary city council voting in favour of a new, $550 million event centre to replace the 36 year old Saddledome.

I've seen a number of great NHL games at the Saddledome and I sat up in the rafters and called many games featuring the Moose Jaw Warriors and Calgary Hitmen.

I'll never forget back in about '95 - calling a game on CHAB and telling the listeners I was live from the "Olympic Saddledome."  The producer back at the station took a phone call from a guy who wanted me to know it was now called the "Canadian Airlines" Saddledome.

I told the producer that I knew there had been a name change but I had forgotten the sponsor.  He relayed that information to the caller who said, "Tell him it's painted on the ice at centre ice."

He was right.  I was embarrassed.  And that was funny.
