Mayor Dale McBain returns from a presentation to the Senate Transportation Committee looking into a new inland shipping terminal for Canada.

A trip to Vancouver and a presentation to the Senate Committee on Transportation has Moose Jaw Mayor Dale McBain feeling optimistic.

McBain was in BC this week to try and convince the Senate Committee that Moose Jaw is the perfect place for a new inland shipping port. "Moose Jaw is a transportation hub with three railways coming through here and three major highways... we have lots of green space for establishment of warehousing and that sort of thing, and we have high tech training facilities through SIAST so we're actually very well situated to take advantage of this."

McBain stresses this concept is still in its infancy but is confident the Moose Jaw message was received and welcomed by the Senate Committee.

An inland terminal would be similar to what is on the coast, just without the ocean and the ships. Containers full of products like grain, electronics, and vehicles would be brought to the terminal by rail or highway, sorted, and then shipped to Vancouver making the transportation more streamline.

The idea for the terminal has developed from congestion at Vancouver ports due mainly to the sorting process.
