In honour of the completion of the Trans Canada Trail, now the Great Trail, the 150th birthday of Canada, and the 25th anniversary of the Great Trail, Moose Jaw Wakamow Valley Authority renamed it's suspension bridge.

Last fall, the Canadian Armed Forces 38th Combat Engineer Regiment had built the suspension bridge in Wakamow Valley.

On Saturday, August 26th, the suspension bridge was renamed to the Saulteaux pedestrian bridge.

"We definitely recognize that all the bridges are named after first nations. We have the Sioux bridge, the Blackfoot bridge, the Assiniboine and the Cree bridge," said Margret Moran, CEO of Wakamow. "So being in treaty 4 land it was just natural that this should be the Saulteaux bridge because treaty 4 was signed by both the Cree and the Saulteaux nations and the Government of Canada."

The area the bridge reached was also named earlier the Paashkwow Park.

The Great Trail has been completed since 1992, with many alterations, like the completion of the Saulteaux bridge.

The renaming ceremony was followed by dancing, drumming, and a barbecue for those in attendance.

"We get recognition as part of the Great Trail that we're part of the larger connectivity across Canada." Added Moran
