Not much was going the Moose Jaw Miller Express' way on Friday night, but that all changed in the eighth inning.

Trailing 6-2 heading into the eighth, the Millers exploded for six runs to come from behind and win 8-7 over the Yorkton Cardinals at Ross Wells Park.

"It felt great, it was a good team win, we started off the game slow and we knew that we had to get something going," said Millers outfielder Blake Gallagher.

"We were having good at-bats, but just couldn't find a big hit when we needed to and the last inning, we came together, got a couple of guys on base and got the big hit when we needed to."

For the second straight night, first baseman Ty Roseberry came up with a big hit when the Millers needed it the most.

Moose Jaw had already plated one run in the eighth when Roseberry stepped to the plate and smacked his team-leading seventh home run of the season, scoring three and helping lead the Millers to the big six-run inning.

"I was just sitting fastball, the guy was struggling and didn't have much command for anything else and just sitting fastball, see it and go for it," said Roseberry.

"It felt good, doing it two nights in a row especially, that's what it's all about."

Shortstop Ty Lightly drove in the winning run when he ripped a two-run double to centerfield with two out in the eighth.

Yorkton would try to answer in the top of the ninth, but they could only put together one run as Logan Hoffman shut the door for the Millers to end the game.

"It's always hard to come back when you're struggling for five innings and stuff like that, but when you come from behind like that, that's what you're here for," said Roseberry, who is a sophomore from University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Hoffman was credited with the win after throwing two innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two.

Gunner Pickett started for Moose Jaw, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings.

Nick Falco helped quiet down the Cardinals offence with 1 2/3 shutout innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Cortland Hampton threw one inning, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Gallagher finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. He had a lead-off home run in the sixth inning that helped kickstart Moose Jaw’s offence and his double scored the first run of the eighth.

"We have a couple of new arms that will help us later in the season and our bats are starting to heat up," said Gallagher.

The Millers are now 16-12 this season and three games in front of Swift Current for third place in the Eastern Division. They’re also just three games back of Regina for second.

Moose Jaw returns to the field on Sunday night to host the Melville Millionaires at Ross Wells Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
