Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Ralph Goodale, recently announced a $55.3 million investment in the improvement of highway infrastructure in Saskatchewan. This investment is provided by the National Trade Corridors Fund.

It is also expected to create good quality jobs during construction, and to boost economic growth in mining, agriculture, and oil and gas production by improving the movement of goods to market.

Work to be undertaken includes the construction of 16 sets of passing lanes on Highways 6 and 39 between Regina an Estevan. Other work includes the twinning of short segments of the corridor south of Regina, north of Milestone, and south of Weyburn, the rehabilitation of approximately 51 km of pavement, and improvements in intersections and highway entrances and exits along the corridor which will improve highway traffic flow, and reduce congestion and travel time.

This work is being done to improve the efficiency of Canada’s trade corridors.
