It took some time to put it all together and to say they did their due diligence would be an understatement.

North 49 Foods is about to get up and running and is already a major economic driver in the city of Moose Jaw.

North 49 is operating a state-of-the-art sow processing plant in the former XL Beef plant on the west side. Donald's Fine Foods purchased it in 2019 and have since invested over $60 million into the facility.

The company, which also operates Thunder Creek Pork, has about 80 employees ready to go and if all goes well, they'll need about 200 more people within a year.

You know what else they did at their grand opening the other day? The Leung family, Allan, Donald and Julia, presented $50,000 to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation and $50,000 to the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank.

I do believe we could call that a firm commitment to our community.
