The Western Development Museum is getting ready for the cold months ahead by offering a new program that they hope to bring people within the community together to learn, and make friends.

The museum's Coffee Club is starting up Wednesday. The idea came from some small-town museums who host a similar club – something Karla Rasmussen, education and public programs coordinator for the WDM - thought would be great for a small city like Moose Jaw

"We're going to start with a very informal program. Our first session is Wednesday, October 30 at 10 am will be all about the Vickers Vedette Boat Plane", which was the last project that our vintage aircraft restorers built for us at the museum. I'll give a little talk about that and the rest of the hour we will just be spent socializing and visiting."

"We're hoping to do this probably once a month, might not be every month but its something we will be posting the schedule for. There will be a different topic or heritage subject that we can talk about every time. We are also toying with the idea of almost a 'Show and Tell' day where you can bring something interesting from your family or your home, bring it to the museum that day, talk about it, and we can learn together".

Then at the start of November, the museum will be hosting its annual Remembrance Day program – In Remembrance.

"Each year we try to find a different speaker and this year we are pleased to have Saskatchewan photographer and blogger Kenton de Jong coming to join us. He's a great fellow, he's done a lot of research on his own, very interested in the topic that he's going to be presenting which is about the Spanish Influenza and how it impacted our province."

Along with the presentation by de Jong, a selection of short films from the National Film Board will be shown in the theatre throughout the day about Canada at war.

All are welcome to attend either event. The WDM Coffee Club will require a $3 drop-in charge, and In Remembrance will require regular museum admission. WDM members are welcome to join for free.
