The City of Moose Jaw is always looking for more ways to bring in tourism. Now, there's a way organizations and group's tourism events could get more funding for their projects.

It's called Destination Marketing Funding from Visit Moose Jaw, and David Wood, Chair of Visit Moose Jaw and General Manager of Temple Gardens Mineral Spa, held an information session on September 8th for such groups interested in the funding.

"Our goal was to reach out to organization that could or might bring events to Moose Jaw and let them know the support that's there. Because we exist as an organization to sponsor events, to bring new events to the city that haven't come before. And we have a concern that some sporting groups, or the like, may very well know of events that they would bring or could bring, if they only knew funding was available".

Maire-Claire Khadij, the Director of the French Community of Moose Jaw, was one person to show up to see about possibilities of Destination Marketing Funding.

"I really like... the plan that they're coming with to bring more people into Moose Jaw. I think it's a great destination, but it's still not very well known. It's a such beautiful city, so I think it's great that they're doing this targeted marketing to bring more people into share our community. It's just so wonderful".

But Wood says that organizations wishing to obtain this funding must meet a certain criteria.

"We're looking for heads in beds, hotels room sold, and other than that preferably to have business coming in on mid-week rather than weekends. And finally, exposure for Visit Moose Jaw, not because we exist to promote ourselves, but every event that we do it makes people more aware that we're here to support event like that".

Visit Moose Jaw has provided Destination Marketing Funding to events over the past 2 years, such as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the Concert Series at Mosaic Place.
