Two people were found dead at the scene of a fire Wednesday afternoon just outside the city of Swift Current.

Around 2 pm emergency responders were called to the scene of a structure fire two miles west of Swift Current, just south of Highway 1.

Upon arrival, two trailers were fully engulfed in flames. The RM of Swift Current Fire Department with the City of Swift Current Fire Department put out the blaze, and upon a search of a trailer found two deceased people.

The second trailer was more of a storage shed. All fire was extinguished by 5 p.m. The Saskatchewan Fire Marshall's Office and the Office of the Chief Coroner are investigating the cause of the fire. RM of Swift Current Fire Chief Louis Cherpin said they're also investigating.

"In the next few days, we'll do some more investigating and try to find a cause. But the extent of the loss is so much that I don't know if we'll ever figure out what the real cause of the fire was."

A hydro vac truck was used by SaskEnergy to cap a natural gas line.

"It's sad news for southwest Saskatchewan and Swift Current and we'll do our due diligence to find out the cause," Cherpin said. "Names aren't being released until next of kin and identification of the bodies."
