The Moose Jaw Transition House celebrated a milestone on Sunday as they marked 40 years of helping people in need.

Local politicians, past and present board members along with supportive members of the community turned out for the event that had a lot to celebrate.

But the local organization is always trying to look forward and anticipate what's next, hoping that the Government of Saskatchewan does more to help those who have been affected by abuse.

"We are always hoping to expand the programming base and to be able to reach further into the rural areas and make sure that women and children know that they have a safe place to come to when they need it." explained Executive Director of the Transition House, Lori Lancaster.

Abuse is often viewed as a physical attack on an individual but psychological abuse or abuse of power over another person are quickly becoming daily issues across the country.

The Moose Jaw Transition House is committed to working through the cycle of abuse with advocacy, education, referrals, and a safe shelter.
