With Summer over, so is the peak tourism season for the Friendly City, and it seems like downtown had a bit of an increase in the number of visitors hitting coming to Moose Jaw.

"It was a really good summer," Executive Director of Tourism Moose Jaw Jackie L'Heureux-Mason said. "It was a slow start from what I heard from most businesses, but overall, July and August ended up being outstanding. We did have our ambassador booth downtown open a little bit [longer with] extended hours so that could definitely account for probably up to twenty percent of the increase but overall our numbers in the past years was increased by about forty percent at the ambassador booth."

Even though it doesn't seem like much, Tourism Moose Jaw says this is huge for them, especially with the trolley being out of commision in August.

"We were seeing a bit of a trend that we were up in March and April, down in May and for the most part of June, until the last week of June, and then July we were sitting at about the same, if not better numbers day to day and then we did notice quite a significant drop off when we're not getting a 120 people in every day to see the trolley," L'Heureux-Mason added.

Natural advertising may be to thank for the uptick. Things like Rogers Hometown Hockey, One Horse Town, and being featured in a Superstore commercial brought lots of attention towards the Friendly City, something which Tourism Moose Jaw believes will continue to pay off for bringing visitors to our city.

As for the broken trolley, Tourism Moose Jaw will be putting some extra attention into it now that they are in their slow season and are still hopeful that they will get the trolley back into service shortly.
