As we make our way through the top stories of 2017, it's hard not to include the amount of new developments and projects that were given the green light in Moose Jaw.

This past year saw the start of quite a few new projects including phase 2 of the civic centre plaza, the industrial park south of the city, plans for a new commercial development next to the Exhibition Grounds, work on an agreement for a protein processing plant and continued work on a potential solar farm and training project.

Economic Development Officer Jim Dixon says it was a good year for the city. "There have been lost of things happening, lots of things coming to fruition and lots of things just on the cusp of crossing the finishing line, so to speak."

"2018 looks very exciting." continued Dixon. "The downtown local area plan was approved and there's lots of opportunity for partnership there with tourism and things like that."

With all of the good, there was some bad news in 2017. Moose Jaw lost several businesses and some of those stories were big news, such as the closing of Sears and the Moose Jaw Times Herald.  Dixon says you hate to have something like that happen, saying it's a hit to the community for sure.
