hospital

It was a story that had was a big part of the election campaign, a topic of discussion for a number of years and today, it's landed at #4 on our list of the Top 5 Local News Stories of the Year.

New rooms, new beds, new offices, new operating rooms... new everything.  Moose Jaw learned at the end of August that we were getting a new hospital. It was standing room only at the Union Hospital when Health Minister Don McMorris explained the province was jumping in with both feet to make this facility the best it can be.

"This will be the first time in Saskatchewan and we think in Canada, that the LEAN methodology will be implemented from the ground up. So this hospital will certainly be state of the art."

At the time there was no details about the project available.  No location had been selected, no price tag was announced and a lot of questions were left unanswered.  In early December we learned that officials are using $97.6 million dollars as a working cost for the project to allow some budgeting.  We also learned that a location is currently in the process of being selected and could be announced in early 2012.

The goal is to have the facility up and running by the end of 2015.
