Saskatchewan has officially proclaimed March 24th-30th as Social Work Week.

The theme for this year’s celebration is 'Real People. Real Impact.'

“Social Work Week gives us the opportunity to recognize and thank social workers across the province for their unique skill set, unwavering commitment to the human services, and passion for helping others,” Karen Wasylenka with the Saskatchewan Associaton of  Social Workers said.  “Our government appreciates the ongoing commitment of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers and its membership to our province’s most vulnerable citizens.”

The Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers governs the profession of social work in the province.  The member-based organization was first established in October 1962 and has grown from active membership of 83 to more than 1,800 registered members.

Across the province, social workers can be found in public and private practice in the areas of health, education, justice, child welfare, and community-based organizations, and also working in policy, planning, and administration.

Social work offers incredible diversity and fulfilment for those who choose this profession.

“Social Work Week helps us celebrate the diverse role social workers play in our communities,” Wasylenka goes on to say, “Social workers serve people of all ages and backgrounds by providing practical solutions and working together to solve and cope with problems.  This year’s theme, 'Real People. Real Impact,' reflects on the change that occurs through the support social workers provide when working with individuals, families, and communities.”

Social Work Week activities are planned in a number of communities across Saskatchewan.
