Looking to help fight the feeling of isolation and loneliness among seniors, Seniors Centre Without Walls gives older residents a chance to meet on the phone and listen to seminars, lectures, participate in activities, listen to live music, and more.

Tina Malkonian with Seniors Without Walls explains more.

"It's all done from your own home from your own telephone. There is a lot of older adults that have techonology, but some don't, and this way it's kind of a level playing field for everyone. Everyone has a phone they can call in on. You don't need a computer, you don't need the internet, you don't need anything aside from an ordinary phone."

Program Manager, Ronda Wedhorn.

"It's for anyone in Saskatchewan aged 55 and over. It's open to anyone to call in. It's a safe, confidential, and private program. No one has to worry that their identities are going to be shared with other participants, only their first names are used."

"The program is completely free. We received a grant from the Canadian Red Cross which we are very grateful for, which helped us get the program up and running. We applied for some other grants too to keep it going over the winter and beyond, so we're crossing our fingers that we'll get one of those. So, it's completely free, and if there are any handouts or art supplies that are needed, we mail those out. No cost to anyone."

Those interested in signing up can email tina.scww@gmail.com, or call 306-631-4357. Once you call, you will do an initial registration, then receive a list of topics/classes for each month. You can sign up for individual classes, and each last about 30-60 minutes.
