The City of Moose Jaw has received approval for about $4.8 million in funding for three projects under the provincial Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP) last week.

The city received approval for $880,000 for the wastewater treatment plant blower project and $54,000 for COVID-19 protection measures. The city will also receive $3.9 million for the pumphouse and high service reservoir project.

"It does provide some financial relieve in that we are able to move forward with some of these projects whereas before we didn't have the funding to do that. Other than that, on a cashflow basis its really doesn't have any impact because it is money we are going to take in and then expend out," said director of financial services Brian Acker.

The high service reservoir project would see the construction of a new pumphouse through the federal Investing in Canada Program. As part of that program, the city must supply 26.67 per cent of the funding, or $3.9 million.

"As far as the wastewater treatment plant project, that is actually additional money we need to complete that project. For the high service reservoir pumphouse, that $3.9 million is a portion of the funding that we require," Acker said.

The wastewater treatment plant blower project is slated to replace four centrifugal blowers that were installed in the 1980s with newer technology. Finally, the COVID-19 protective measure would help bring in the protective measure necessary to reopen city facilities.
