A cash strapped provincial government, that just a few weeks ago told cities to avoid raising taxes, could do just that themselves.

The budget will drop April 10th at the Legislature in Regina and there's talk that Finance Minister Donna Harpauer is considering an increase to the PST from 6 to 7 percent. Harpauer has declined to comment on the chatter but says everything is being considered.

In his first public address after being selected as leader of the Saskatchewan Party, Premier Scott Moe warned cities of potential funding cuts with the budget and said he didn't want that passed onto municipal tax payers.

Maybe a little bit of irony in the story, but the province has announced they are working on new classes to teach high school students how to better handle their finances for when they become adults. Education Minister Gord Wyant says the classes will be electives and look at things like debt, credit, mortgages, interest and loans.

High school curriculum has been criticized for years for not preparing the next generation with basic financial life skills. The new courses could be offered in the fall of 2019.
