Saskatchewan has recorded it’s eighth death from someone positive with COVID-19, and the province announced that another death is under investigation.

COVID deaths need to be confirmed by the province’s medical health officer to ensure the case meets criteria in order to be documented in the epidemiological reporting.

There were no new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saskatchewan on Tuesday, along with three recoveries, for a provincial total of 634 cases and 549 recoveries since the pandemic began. A total of 77 cases are considered active.

Also, there are five people currently in hospital. Of those, three are in ICU in Saskatoon.

Of the 77 currently active cases, 65 are in the far north, five are in the north, six are in Saskatoon, one in the south region, which includes the Moose Jaw area.  There are no cases in the Regina and central regions.

Of the 634 provincial cases overall, 141 are travel-related, 361 are community contacts or mass gatherings, 77 have no known exposures and 55 are under investigation by public health.

Fifty of the cases are health care workers, and the province says the infections may not be because of their health care in all instances.

A total of 167 of the cases are from the Saskatoon area, 76 are from the Regina area, 111 are from the north, 252 are from the far north, 16 are from the south and 12 are from the central region.

Ninety-three cases are of people 19 and younger, and 122 are in the 60-and-older range. Of all of the cases, 51 per cent are in female patients and 49 per cent are male. There have been seven deaths of patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Thusfar, 44,580 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. There has been a rate of 34,317 tests per one million people, compared to the national average of 39,369 per million.

Saskatchewan still has the fifth most active cases in Canada.

Nationally as of Monday afternoon, there have been over 86,600 confirmed cases and over 6,600 deaths from COVID-19. There have also been over 45,200 recoveries. The United States had over 98,500 deaths Monday afternoon and is now over 1.67 million cases.
