The Government of Saskatchewan is celebrating the one year anniversary this week of Protection and Response team (PRT).

The PRT has helped the government out by looking for new ways to address crime in Saskatchewan, with the PRT giving a presence of law enforcement within communities all across the province.

One of the ways the PRT have aided the RCMP is by providing the initial service to in-progress and criminal code calls for service.

The PRT was created to help reduce crime in rural Saskatchewan. Due to the support provided to the RCMP from the highway patrol officers, and conservation officers, there is now a strong partnership between everyone to help ensure that residents of the province are safe.

Already, in one example a Saskatchewan conservation officer helped track down a theft suspect in Kindersley, another conservation officer responded to a call for help from the RCMP in Pinehouse for a high-risk take down that went successfully.

Also, PRT vehicles are equipped with Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs). As of right now, a total investment of roughly $3.8 million dollars from SGI has helped place 136 ALPRs in Saskatchewan.

Since April the Protection and Response Team have responded to over 400 calls.
