Moose Jaw welcomed a special visitor on Monday. The President of the University of Regina came to chat with Mayor Clive Tolley and other town officials at the WIldflower Bistro for lunch.

The president is currently on a tour, travelling to several small communities around Saskatchewan, to talk with the towns about the resources and support the university has to offer.

"I want to emphasize the fact that it's important for me to ensure the University of Regina... that this university is really about more than Regina. It has to have a strong presence in and respond to the needs of people in different communities and to raise its recognition, its reputation so that we draw from a larger catchment area and that we serve the people of the province and that there are different things for different places," says Keshen.

He's looking to strengthen relationships with surrounding communities and bring comfort and support to students and their parents. He ensured that the university realizes that for some students, making a move to a larger city and going to school is a massive adjustment.

"It's quite a transition to go to a larger institution and we want to make sure that they (students) feel at home. That we're providing support for them and that we provide programs that are going to enable them to succeed," says Keshen.

He's hoping to set up presentations with schools in Moose Jaw to talk with students and parents about what programs and support services the university has to offer.
