They had a busy winter and now they're shifting gears and preparing for a busy spring and summer!

Ag West Service, located just west of Moose Jaw, services heavy trucks, construction equipment and agricultural machinery.

Owner/operator Dan McLaren is more than happy to be busy and looking forward to the new season.

"Yes, people are starting to get ready to go farming and things are picking up.  We're doing some tractors and getting them ready to go," McLaren said.

And, while shifting to spring will mean a heavy workload, McLaren says it's a relief that the cold weather is behind us.  Ag West Service took a number of calls to their 24-hour emergency service line over the winter.

"Yes, when we had that cold snap there, it was really busy as fuel systems freeze up and stuff like that."

McLaren has owned and operated Ag West Service Ltd. since 1999.  They started out servicing agricultural equipment and then started on heavy trucks and construction equipment.

In fact, they'll work on all makes and models of combines, tractors, seeders, sprayers, trucks, skid steers, forklifts, scissor and zoom lifts, track and backhoes and more.

The expansion continued in 2020 when Ag West Service became a Deutz-Fahr dealership.  Headquartered in Germany, Deutz-Fahr is a highly respected name in agriculture circles.  It's a company with roots that can be traced back to 1870.

"Deutz-Fahr has smaller horsepower tractors for acreages, loaders, and they go up to 340 horsepower front wheel-assist tractors.  They have a very good variation of horsepower and speeds and they've been around for a long time," McLaren said.

"I actually had a DX-710 Deutz-Fahr tractor and my brother owns it now.  It's a good tractor.  It served us well and so, I thought, why not try and sell some," McLaren said with a smile.

In fact, Ag West Service has some brand-new models on-site and ready to go.

"We've got a 75-horsepower front wheel-assist with a loader on it - that's an excellent acreage tractor.  We have a 6140 here with a loader-ready for the cattle guys and we're getting a 6165 which is a 165-horsepower tractor that will be here shortly."

McLaren says it's the German technology that sets Deutz-Fahr apart from some of the other big brand names.

"There are lots of them over in the UK and they really like them.  It's very good technology."

The Deutz-Fahr machinery is all manufactured in Germany but bringing it into Canada and all the way to Moose Jaw happens more quickly than some might think.

"I've got one that we just ordered from the factory.  I believe it's headed over here now on a ship.  They end up in Quebec and then they get shipped to us.  The time frame is actually pretty good.  And, we've had good luck with parts as well.  You know, we can have parts here within a couple of days from Quebec, so it's worked out very well so far," McLaren told us.

Ag West Service Ltd. takes pride in being as loyal to their customers as they are to them and personalized service is where it all starts.  They have a full team of mechanics who go above and beyond to get you what you need and get you on your way.

McLaren wants to stress that he and his team are there for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with emergency heavy truck and trailer repair.

They have two fully equipped service trucks and they'll be ready to deliver that service once spring seeding operations ramp up.

"You know, we'll go out on a weekend or whatever for agriculture if you need emergency service," McLaren says.  "We'll do on-site air conditioning repair or hydraulic lines - we'll do whatever it takes in the field to help you out."

"We're just 10 miles west of Moose Jaw on Caribou Street and we're about 3 miles straight south of Caronport."
