The Omicron COVID-19 variant has been detected in the province.

The Ministry of Health said in a media release, four people from a single household with a travel history to one of the ten countries of concern identified by the Government of Canada have screened positive for a variant of concern.  These tests will now receive whole genome sequencing to confirm that it is B.1.1.529 (Omicron).

The release stated that those individuals and their close contacts are now isolating. The government also said that it is expected that additional Omicron cases will be detected in Saskatchewan. The province is reminding all residents to continue to follow the best public health practices to prevent all COVID-19 transmission.
