The USA Independent Music Awards (IMA) honours "the year’s most exceptional & artistically daring music projects from self-released and indie label talent from around the globe," and one of Moose Jaw's own is nominated for an award.

Taking place in New York this year, Jared Robinson, Producer at Nebulus Entertainment, has been nominated for the award in the "Classical Contemporary" category.

He earned this nomination through his work as a producer on the play, "The Strange and Tumultuous Life of Edgar Allan Poe."

"I have a twin brother (Micah Robinson), he's a high school teacher and he wrote the stage play for an adaptation about Edgar Allen Poe," said Robinson. "So he said 'you know, I'm putting a lot of hours into this for an original play, would you ever consider writing a theme for it' and I said look, you know, if we're going to do this we're going to do this big."

Going big meant making an orchestral score similar to one you might hear in a blockbuster movie. Robinson was able to single-handedly create a full soundtrack using his digital music library, which helps recreate the sounds of different instruments like they were actually being played. At anytime, he could have close to 60 different instruments being played during a song.

The actual award show takes place Saturday night, but there is some stiff competition.

"Some of the other artists in my category are the Philharmonic in Prague, and groups like that," he explained, humbled by the nomination. "It makes it so much more fun for me to have this nomination knowing it's something I've put together on my own."

Winners in 96 different categories will be announced at the IMA's on March 31st from Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
