The Moose Jaw Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are heading up an investigation into an in-custody that took place in Kennedy, Sask.

Broadview RCMP received a report of a distraught person at around 9 p.m. on Monday.

A 36-year-old woman was taken into police care under the Mental Health Act, but police say she went into medical distress shortly afterward.

EMS was called to the scene and the woman was transported to the hospital where she was declared deceased early Tuesday morning.

Police are not releasing the name of the woman.

Along with the Moose Jaw Police Service investigating the circumstances surrounding the death with help from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the RCMP has also requested that the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.
