The province of Saskatchewan released the mid-year financial report on Wednesday and according to the government things are on track.

Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said "Saskatchewan's economy is performing well and is expected to post positive growth for the first time in two years"

At mid-year the deficit projection for 2017-18 is set at $679 million, $6 million less than what was estimated.

There are also promising signs from the resource sector and that bounce back is reflected in forecast GDP growth of 1.5% in 2017 and 2.2% in 2018.

Also in Wednesdays announcement Harpauer confirmed all of the $300 million contingency fund that was laid out in the budget has been spent.  That may make things challenging in the back half of the year should any unforeseen issues appear.

The Finance Minister also spoke to the much talked about 3.5% reduction to public service compensation saying "compensation savings projected in the budget are not likely to be achieved in 2017-18".

"Our government has asked employers to continue to pursue compensation savings" Harpauer said, "as part of continuing to manage our expenses very carefully as we pursue our plan to balance the budget by 2019-20".
