"Libraries Transform" next week, as October 14th to the 20th is Saskatchewan Library Week.

The Moose Jaw Public Library will be joining the province and they will also be celebrating the week with a few different programs.

"It's just a time of coming together of both the library and library staff and the type of programs we like to run and the community to celebrate the library during the library week," Katrina Howick, Youth and Outreach Programmer for the Children's Department at the Moose Jaw Public Library said.

One special event they have planned is a family "Monster Mash." They'll have games, prizes, treats, and a movie on the 16th. They also have a fine forgiveness week. Anyone with large outstanding fees can do various tasks to get $10 coupons off of your fees. Coupons can be earned by anyone by bringing a food bank donation, designing a bookmark, or by finding a hidden item in the library.

The staff wants to attract more people to come to the library, which they hope to accomplish next week.

"I think that the most important message is that the library is kind of whatever you want it or need it to be," Assistant Head Librarian Shevaun Ruby said. "It's not just a place where you can get books; we have a lot of those and we want you to take them out, but it's also a place to bring together families and community and the library staff and just make sure everyone is coming in and using the library however they want to."

Even if you don't own a library card, it only takes 10 minutes to renew your card or get a new one.
