The first-ever Level Up convention was held at Riverview Collegiate on Saturday.

The convention consisted of board games, virtual reality, Dungeons and Dragons, as well as cosplay and was intended for students from grades 9-12.

Janis Lamb, a teacher at Riverview, helped organized the event and explained what she plans on doing next year. "This is my profound pleasure, I want to continue with this next year and make it bigger, better, and attract more kids. We're contemplating adding a video game segment next year."

The day started at 10:00 am and continued until 10:00 pm.

James Mills is a local resident and hosted one of two Dungeons and Dragons games, and spoke about the game itself. "If you have never tried it before, don't feel intimidated. The Rules of fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons especially are very light and very easy to jump into."

Lamb went on to share how important she felt an event like this was to the community. "I think it's super important. I think that gamers' are a growing segment of the teenage population. I love that with Dungeons and Dragons particularly it's not competitive. It involves a lot of critical thinking and problem solving and these skills as an educator... it's a gold mine. They're learning and they don't even realize they're learning."
