With the amount of fraud and identity theft cases on the rise recently, its important to make sure to keep your personal information safe. Not just in real life, but online also.

With how much the internet is integrated in to our society now-a-day, its hard to picture a world without it. We use it for shopping, paying bills, and entertainment, but its important to keep in mind the dangers that potentially lurk online.

"We are seeing a lot more identity theft. I know the Alberta Privacy Commission they just came out with a report that its almost more than doubled in Alberta where people have been hit, so these hackers are knowledgeable on how to get in," said Greg Marcyniuk, Agency Owner of Heritage Insurance. "Again you just want to be very careful with your password out there."

Once your password is figured out, it could easily be used to find out personal information about yourself, and use it for themselves or pass it along, so you need to find a strong password.

"The biggest thing is is that we have a very strong password," Marcyniuk added. "You don't want to use any birthdays at all, any favourite sport teams and avoid using the same passwords for multiple access points so if you have a couple banks if you have a couple of credit cards do not utilize the same password."

Its also important to stay away from easy to guess passwords, like 123456, the word 'password', or qwerty, just to show a few examples
