Statistic Canada's recent data on jobs in the provinces shows June 2018 held the largest job growth for Saskatchewan since 2012, with 8300 more jobs compared to May 2018.

The Stats Canada report also shows 583,700 people were employed in the province in June, up 3,900 year-over-year.

The provinces unemployment rate also dropped from 6.8 percent in May to 6.3 percent, putting Saskatchewan at the 5th lowest rate.

Other highlights outlined by the Government of Saskatchewan include:

  • Major year-over-year employment gains were reported for public administration, up by 3,200 jobs, finance, insurance, real estate and leasing, up 2,500 jobs, and health care and social assistance, up 2,100 jobs.
  • The forestry, fishing, mining, oil and gas sector also showed growth, up 1,500 jobs, and the manufacturing sector was up 1,400 jobs from June 2017.
  • Compared to June 2017, Regina's employment increased by 1,400 jobs while Saskatoon’s increased by 4,100 jobs.
