First it was teachers sanctions, then it was COVID-19, so far 2020 has not been kind to youth.

But out of the adversity came the Isolation Olympics, a program created by Joe's Place to keep youth engaged and upbeat.

Joe Dueck is the owner of Joes Place.

"When we first started hearing about the pandemic we knew we couldn't stay open but we also knew that isolation would be really hard for some of our cities youth. This has been rapid changing and hard on all of us but especially on our youth, so many unknowns, so many things that they love to do were lost in a short amount of time."

Dueck explained the Isolation Olympics.

"So now we have a whole month of contests and competitions lined up to keep the youth busy and upbeat. So we have a two week art contest where they take a photo of their art and post it. We have a three day Lego building contest, this weekend we start a photo contest and an online karaoke contest we call "Social Distan-sing". We have a video contest, writing contest, meme contest, and more. We also have online gaming every week as well so there is lots to do online together."

Dueck added that there is also a movie club held every week where the youth watch a movie then discuss it on an online forum.

There are prizes for each of the contests and competitions including a 55 inch smart TV which every participant is entered in to possibly win.

So if you are a Moose Jaw teen who wants to get involved, all you must do is message Joes Place on Facebook or Instagram.
