While they may be on their downtime, Hunger in Moose Jaw remained busy over the Summer, even without delivering lunches to schools across Moose Jaw.

"September kicks off and we go pretty steady all the way until June," explained Sharla Sept, the Executive Director of Hunger in Moose Jaw. "We have some great staff that get breaks during the summer and rest of us get a little bit of a break just because of numbers and such, but yeah, we go full force starting September."

During the summer, Hunger in MJ houses Yara Community Gardens, who remain busy all summer with all of their projects they work to upkeep.

They renovated their preschool, prepared for their upcoming fundraisers, and continued their lunch program, which goes through the summer but is delivered to children in park programs and daycares.

"We do about nine parks, and about 90 lunches a day. [With Playground Program finished] there's still a few parks that we do," explained Hunger in Moose Jaw's Kitchen Coordinator Donna Gabel. "We still do the YMCA, we do Jobransa, and we do the literacy program still. We kind of get prepared for the fall doing this. It's a lot less, a lot less lunches."

Gabel added that some kids who use their lunch program during the summer, use it in the school year too, utilizing their service all year long.

Over the summer, the organization also has been collecting yarn and for their Fall into Fabric fundraiser. Once school starts up again, Hunger in Moose Jaw will continue their lunch program to nineteen schools across the Friendly City, making sure kids are energized for their school days.
