Twice a year a group of organizers host a gaming event where proceeds go to a local charity or organization.

Just recently members of the Moose Jaw Gamers Association handed over $3,000 to our two school divisions, which was made possible by the proceeds of their event in the winter as well as the Moose Jaw Pioneers who decided to

partner with the gaming enthusiasts.

"We have the Pioneers donating books every year as well. I'm on their executive [committee], they donate pallets of books and it just kind of fit in with the gamers trying to help kids and kids programs in the city," explained Kristian Sjoberg who spearheads the gaming events. "The Pioneers were willing to partner with us and match - well actually double - our donation that the gamers made."

The Holy Trinity and Prairie South School Divisions each got handed a cheque worth $1,500 thanks to the generosity of these local groups, and Sjoberg said to see the administration's excitement along with the kids' as well reminded him why they do it.

"They were super happy; it was unexpected because they didn't know it was coming of course. Riverview Collegiate used some of the money to purchase books for their kids there, I went and took a picture with them not long ago. All of the kids got to pick out whatever book they wanted, not just the ones that the library has available to them. They were able to take it home and it was theirs [to keep]," said Sjoberg.

The semi-annual GAX event is one of the biggest and longest running in our province, which is why they have so much support each time it's held.

"We had a great event this year. Our winter one had over 80 came for the weekend, even a couple of MLAs showed up. We had a great time playing board games, card games, everything, and we've got another one coming up in July. So it's a new event and new season starting for us."

Sjoberg noted that the whole point of the GAX event is to have fun while raising money for a local and deserving cause.
