Moose Jaw Coop held their annual 'Fuel Good Days' on September 18, which saw 10 cents from every litre of gas sold being donated to Moose Jaw Families for Change.

And on Monday morning - they were able to donate a cheque worth just over $10,000 to the Local registered charity and non-profit agency.

Katie Statler, who works with Moose Jaw Families for Change, talks about what the money will be used for;

"We're doing some reno's as you can see while we're here, so it [the donations] will be going toward the running of the inclusion centre or some of the medical supplies or accessibility supplies that we might need to run the centre. We are certainly always open to donations, we've actually had an overwhelming amount of donations most recently so at this time we're not really asking for any donations but anyone that is willing to come down, volunteer, donate, we're more than happy to accept".

Moose Jaw Families for Change purchased a building on South Hill in June, which is set to become a new home for many of the organization's activities and programs.

"We are located at the old Conexus branch on 4th and Lillooet. Right now, we'll just call it the Moose Jaw Families for Change Inclusion Centre. We will be running things like day programs, evening programs and some weekend options as well, so, for example, we might work on resume building with some folks, math, reading - things like that, cooking classes, so just trying to promote quality of life and skill development as well".

This isn't the first time the Moose Jaw Coop has raised money for a local organization; last year during 'Fuel Good Day' they raised over $11,000 for the Moose Jaw Humane Society. Statler tells us what this relationship between the MJFFC and MJ Coop means to them;

"It means so much because what we're trying to do; we're trying to create more options within the community. Other facilities do have other options for folks with varying abilities and we just want to add to those services that they are already contributing to. It really means a lot to be partnered up with someone like COOP and some of these other larger organizations that are helping us out"

All 3 of the friendly cities group homes were in attendance at the presentation, along with staff and management from Moose Jaw Coop.
