It could cost more for ice and field rentals in Moose Jaw next year. Facility fees are being reviewed as part of the budget process at City Hall.

Scott Osmachenko with the Parks and Recreation Department has presented a report to city council that suggests the need for a 2% across the board facility fee increase.

"(We) strive for a 50% recovery rate which means that the revenues brought in cover 50% of the cost for the faculties," explained Osmachenko. "When things go up related to salaries and utilities, we found that a 2% increase was needed to bring us back to that 50% recovery rate."

As an example, the proposed increase works out to an approximate $2 increase for ice rental for minor hockey or figure skating. The only rate that wouldn't be impacted is Kinsmen Sportsplex membership and admission rates.

Council is considering the motion as part of budget talks and the overall financial situation of the city. If approved, the increase would be rolled out for June 1st.
