Moose Jaw firefighters were called into action early this morning as they had to respond to another grass fire near the old Wild Animal Park on the south side of the city. It's not clear what sparked the fire but this is the second in the same area this spring.

The risk for grass fires continues to increase with each day that we don't get some significant rainfall.  Over the course of less than a week, another 22 fires have been reported in the province, taking the total for the year to 94, well above the five-year average. There's a chance of widespread fire bans being issued across the province ahead of the May Long Weekend in order to mitigate the risk.

A risk map released Monday by the Ministry of Environment shows nearly the entire province is at a high risk or extreme risk of wildfires due to a lack of moisture. The Moose Jaw area falls into the extreme category right now.
