Earlier today, a decision was made by the Salvastion Army Territorial Office in Toronto, that the thrift store stop receiving donations from the community.

According to Major Dan Broome, the Community Services Director and Corps Officer for the Moose Jaw Salvation Army, the previous plan to still take in donations has now been reversed. A notice on the building door reads:

"Covid-19 Update:

For the safety of our employees and the people of our community, The Salvation Army Thrift Store will no longer be accepting donations of clothes, furniture or miscellaneous household items. This is effective as of 5:00 pm today March 24, 2020.

We are sorry for the any inconvenience this may cause, and we ask that you please hold on to your donations until we are able to open and receive them again. These are trying times for us all and we ask that you please consider helping us help others in this community by saving your donation for a later date.

The need for affordable clothing and household items will be very high in the days, weeks, and months ahead as we work to rebuild from the effects of the pandemic. When we reopen, donations will be needed more than ever to support the needs of our local communities and social service programs so we can continue to help those in need."

According to Major Broome, their family and community ministries will remain open to help those who need assistance. They plan to continue to serve the community with food and emergency meals as needed.
