The Moose Jaw Police Service will be conducting an investigation into what led to a death in a holding cell at the Ahtahkakoop RCMP Detachment.

A 24-year-old male was taken into custody on Wednesday at 4:30 am and was found unresponsive at 8:00 am. Officers performed life-saving measures on him using an AED but were unable to revive him. He was declared dead by EMS at 9:15 am.

Saskatchewan RCMP requested that the Moose Jaw Police Service conduct the investigation, along with help from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and Ministry of Justice, who will appoint an independent observer.

The Ahtahkakoop First Nation is located about 90 km northwest of Prince Albert.
