With a new school year, Central Collegiate also has a new gym floor, complete with a redesign of the entire room.

While moving into the future, they've done a lot to make sure the past won't be forgotten with the renovation.

The floor itself was 60 years old, and now has their new bird logo at the centre of the room, though the old Cyclones logo can still be found throughout the school.

Vice Principal of Central Collegiate, Lonny Holmes, on how the gym has changed.

"We've switched the bleachers from the west wall to the east wall. We closed off a couple of doors to allow for that. But that way, people don't have to worry about trying to cross the floor when the come to watch a sporting event. It just makes it that much easier for people to come and go. Had to to move some things like the main basketball hoops and back boards, had to be moved further to the west to accommodate that. We've done some changes too in some of our storage facility within the gym. New ice makers and things like that. Just a lot of things to kind of give that new facility that new kind of life."

Holmes added that the main entry now will be slightly to the north of the previous entry where everybody used to come in.

"It's kind of right in the corner of the gym. Where people used to come in and just walk straight down the main hallway through the student lounge, now they just have to vear off to their right from the main Oxford St. doors."

With a new floor and design, comes a brightened spirit within the school, said Holmes, as they enter the new school year.
