The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds, The Water Security Agency, and the Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards held 'Provincial Drainage - Water Management Conference'.

"In general, this conference is hosted by the Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds Stewards and the topic is around practical approaches in agriculture," said Sam Ferris, VP of Regulatory Division of the Water Security Agency. "Specifically around drainage from farm field and lakes."

The Friday event held here in Moose Jaw was the second conference to take place in a week, as another one was held in Melfort this past Monday.

Members from the Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds, the Water Security Agency, the Moose Jaw River watershed Stewards, and individual producers who have an interest in agriculture drainage in their area were attendance on Friday.

Specialist from across Saskatchewan came and presented on topics such as the benefits and implications of agricultural drainage on soils and agricultural water quality in the prairies

"Well, I think communication and education is key so that people can understand what is tended for water management in the future since the new regulations came into place in 2015," Ferris added. "Its sort of the main idea, basically working towards practical solutions to water management in the future."
