Moose Jaw City Council is putting the final touches on the deal to bring a new Canadian Tire store to the city.

At Monday night's council meeting, it was unanimously agreement that the wheels be set in motion for rezone the proposed site from Community Service and Instituational District to Vehicle Oriented Commerical District.

The site is located at 250 Thatcher Dr. E. near the Exhibition Grounds.

Director of planning and development services Michelle Sanson says the site needs to be rezoned because it is still zoned as part of the Exhibition Grounds.

"Currently the land is still part of the property that the exhibition grounds are located on and we require separate parcel for that and part of the agreement is that the city would subdivide out that 11.95 acres parcel and rezone it to C3," Sanson said.

Administration will proceed with the advertising and preparation for the rezoning and, barring a large response during the bylaw stage, will be passed on to council for final reading.

The agreement for Canadian Tire to purchase 11.95 acres of land for $3.17 million was ratified by council in December.

Construction on the site is expected to begin later this year.
