This Sunday marks a big event for Central Butte.

It's the annual Fall to Christmas Trade Fair and this year it is sponsored by the Central Butte Child Care Corporation.

Central Butte and the surrounding areas have needed a child care facility for a long time. The closest licensed care centre is in Moose Jaw.

"We have a ton of kids running around who need child care during the day so the parents can go to work. Right now, most families are relying on their family and friends to help them because there's really no day homes or child care centers available," says Kayla Hamm, the event organizer.

The corporation was founded in February and just purchased a new building that it plans to renovate as well as put on an addition.

The admissions from the Trade Fair will go towards helping the corporation with these costs and help fund the licensed child care centre that it plans to open up in September 2022.

Hamm says it's a big project so the goal is to raise $450,000.

The corporation has partnered with the Moose Jaw Funeral home who has promised to match every $2 raised.

Central Butte is a growing community.

"Five years ago, we were at 92 students enrolled in our school and this year we started school with 150 and next year we're projected for 160 students to be enrolled in school," says Hamm.

The funds raised from the Trade Fair will entirely go towards the child care centre. It will create jobs for the community and allow parents to able to go to work.

The Trade Fair will have over 40 vendors present. It's happening at the Central Butte School this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"You'll definitely get your Christmas shopping started and maybe even finished at this event... It's shaping up to be a great event," says Hamm.

People will be able to shop handmade crafts, home appliances, jewelry, baking, local boutiques, and more.

The seniors are also putting on a lunch with Chili and homemade buns.

Masking is required and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is mandatory for all vendors and participants.
