If you're flying anywhere soon, you may notice a higher charge to bring your belongings.

Air Canada and WestJet have both increased to price to check in a bag from $25 to $30 dollars, which wasn't that large of a leap. However, for your second piece of luggage, the price moved up from $30 to $50.

Those who use the lowest priced airfare will be the ones to see the added expense. These changes are coming shortly after similar ones were made with U-S airlines JetBlue Airways Corp.

The price changes for these two airlines come into effect to flights departing on October 5th across Canada, to and from the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico.

The airlines say this is to maintain the lower airfares that their companies provide, amid rising costs to provide their services. This is the first baggage fee change since 2014 for the Canadian airlines.
